Training Power Systems Troubleshooting

Training Power Systems Troubleshooting INTRODUCTION No matter how complete or expensive an electrical system is, the components of the system begin to deteriorate as soon as they are installed and failure of some component in the system will ultimately result.  If deterioration is not checked, it can cause electrical failures and malfunctions.  In addition, load changes or circuit alterations may be made without overall design coordination, which can result in improper selection of equipment, or settings of protective devices, or wrong trip units installed in the circuits.  There are certain definite and logical methods and procedures in locating the source of trouble on electrical equipment.  Experience indicates that in most cases where the exact trouble spot is not determined, it is because the troubleshooter has not applied his or her knowledge properly. Blown fuses, overload contacts, open contacts, short circuits, burned out coils, and grounds are responsible for most electrical circuit failures.  These problems should be relatively easy to find and correct.  Many...

Training Voltage Regulators, Capacitors, Reactors and Reclosers

Training Voltage Regulators, Capacitors, Reactors and Reclosers Description: Utilities are required to provide power to their customers within a specific range of voltage. Voltages that are outside of that range may damage equipment or cause it to operate inefficiently. For example, voltage that is significantly lower than the desired range may cause lights to dim and motors to burn out. Voltage that is significantly higher may cause lights or appliances to fail prematurely. In an ideal ac power system, the voltage and frequency at every supply point would be constant and free of harmonics, and the power factor would be unity. In particular these parameters would be independent of the size and characteristics of consumers' load. In an ideal system, each load could be designed for optimum performance at the given supply voltage, rather than for merely adequate performance over an unpredictable range of voltage. Moreover, there could be no interference between different loads as a result of variations in the current...

Cable Termination Utilizing the Medium Voltage termination kits

Training Cable Termination Utilizing the Medium Voltage termination kits Solid dielectric power cable systems are subject to higher voltages than ever before. Inadequate installation and testing of cable splices and terminations is the number one cause of failure (IEEE Std 493-2007 Table 10-33). Yet over the last few decades, cable splicing as a profession has declined as multi-crafting and departmental merges have made it just a function among many. Proper installation of cable splices and termina-tions drastically improves the lifetime of cables and prevents damage to downstream equipment and nearby personnel. This hands-on course is intended for new or experienced electri-cians and technicians that install, maintain, repair or troubleshoot5-35 kV solid dielectric power cables. The student should have some field experience and basic knowledge of AC/DC electricity. Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to: Explain medium voltage cable components and construction Identify applications of different cable types including marine, offshore, mining, underground (URD) and tech Prepare cable for...

INFRARED THERMOGRAPHY TRAINING
